Drifting usually isn’t synonymous with the Mustang, but a few years ago that changed when Ford hired Vaughn Gittin, Jr., to get behind the wheel of one and pilot it to victory—which he’s done a number of times. Gittin has now come up with his own Mustang, and he’s calling it the RTR. The package will be offered first for the Mustang GT (a V-6 version is said to follow), with power upgrades limited to a K&N intake, louder exhaust, and a remapped engine computer that reportedly combine for an extra 9 hp.
Handling is the real focus of the RTR package, with sticky Falken FK452 tires wrapped around 19-inch RTR wheels plus a Ford Racing suspension setup with a 1.5-inch-lower ride height and stiffer dampers. The cars get Baer drilled and slotted brake rotors. There’s also a heavy dose of visual panache with a front splitter, a rear diffuser, an aluminum rear spoiler, new side skirts, special RTR badges, and some vinyl decorations. The interior nabs RTR-exclusive floor mats, badges, and a shift knob. All told, the V-8 Mustang RTR package is expected to cost $7800 and will be available through select Ford dealerships.
